Description
Beekeeping Classes
Hands-On Training in South Central Texas
We offer small group beekeeping classes designed to build confidence, practical skill, and real understanding — over an open hive.
Families and responsible youth are welcome to attend. Because maturity levels vary, parents should decide whether their child is ready for a hands-on class involving active beehives.
Whether you are just getting started or ready to expand your apiary, our classes focus on sound fundamentals, healthy bees, and hands-on experience.
Choose Your Level
• Beekeeping 101 — For new and first-year beekeepers
• Beekeeping 201 — For experienced beekeepers ready for the next level
How Our Classes Work
Our Basic Class includes a private video series followed by an in-person hands-on session over an active hive.
Intermediate training focuses on live demonstrations, advanced hive evaluation, and real-time management decisions.
Classes are weather permitting. We do not open hives in heavy rain or pull frames in temperatures below 60°F.
Class Times
Class Times - 10:00 AM
Classes are held in the mornings, 10:00 am till noon, followed by loading bees in the afternoons.
Part 2 of the class is typically around 2 hours long and may run slightly longer, depending on the amount of Q & A. Students are welcome to hang out and visit to discuss bees and beekeeping.
For students that also ordered bees, we will load bees right after the class. Normally no later than 12:30 (fyi - for anyone on a tight time schedule)
Additional Information
Dress for the Occasion
This class includes working around active hives. Honey bee stings are always a possibility when handling bees, and participants should be comfortable being around bees outdoors. We are a working bee farm (apiary), so expect to see lots of bees flying throughout the day.
Please note, we do not have a walk-in store for shopping at the farm, but we do sell supplies. Ordering in advance is recommended — especially during peak season.
If you are coming to a class and need supplies, please visit the Protective Gear section and order at least a week before your class date.
Weather & Safety
Classes are weather permitting. We do not open hives in heavy rain or temperatures below 60°F.
If a storm develops during class, we have covered and indoor facilities available. While we will not open hives during inclement weather, instruction and discussion will continue safely.
Children & Families
We welcome families and young people interested in learning about bees.
This is a hands-on outdoor class involving active hives. Parents should determine whether their child is mature enough to participate safely and remain attentive.
Protective gear is recommended for all participants.
